Great Animation, and very fine movement, amazing also that it is in colour for 1942, given how long it would be for the first colour sets to show it as intended.

than the Europeans that killed off millions of Native Americans.(btw I am an American of European descent). And screwed them out of the vast majority of land of these now United States turned world wide aggressive empire post ww2. Max Fleisher's motion picture cartoons are very important artistically.

I guess some of these reviewers are a little short on American history. The Indian villian - or native american if one prefers - also seems to have forgotten that the island of Manhatten was not 'stolen' from the indigenous peoples -again if they were truely indigenous -. The property rights to the island was traded away. It was only after the new owners put much time ,effort and money into improving the island did the "peoples" have a problem with the trade.
But that wasn't the point of the cartoon, now or then. It was and is merely a plot device to allow good -i.e. Superman- to triumph over evil -the villian-. As another reviewer has noted it was war time and the real worl evil were the Axis Powers. This cartoon allows one to root for and see good win.
Besides, the beauty of the artwork is pretty phenomenal for it's time period, especially the underwater scenes. And if one watches enough of these old Max Fleischer cartoons Max had a real patriotic streak. I also think that Lois Lane was drawn simply but beautifully. And she was not calling the villians wanting Manhatten returned fantastic, her comment was for the idea that the villian wanted the island emptied of all not "my People".
You have to stop trying to judge the past by todays standards or ideas. Who is it that should be the final arbitor of which was better?

Strong message with ethnic over tones. Will claim what is rightfully ours and no one is going to stop us. Isn't this what is going on all around our world today. In the end, good triumphs over evil.

These older Fleischer animations are quite appealing even today! Very interesting how the evil dark-skinned human is portrayed as highly educated. The bigotry in this sort of entertainment is so overt yet highly effective. Perhaps less effective today. Moral of the story: I am white, hence I and my culture is superior to every other on this planet. I can make laws, break laws and remake laws at will! I can literally takeover anyone else's property and reclaim it to be mine. This notion will not be intellectually challenged, since I have already defined myself to be supreme!

Give it the era of the 1940's storywriting, script and animation to come up with classic heroic adventures of our favorite comic book hero. No complaints here at all.
But, interesting that one said that this cartoon was 13 frames off-sync to the sound to picture. REALLY (interesting that one can count such an exact frame count just by watching a film).
If such a film had THAT much off-sync delay from picture to sound, it would be horribly noticable to where the contributer would have reproduced this transfer to correct such a sync problem long before posting this on this site.
Still was great to see anyway..and I didn't have that sync problem on my download.

This movie is 13 frames out of sync (audio is late). Is this just my problem, and if so can someone explain to me how to fix it? It would be kind of nice if someone could fix the download - as it is, I find it almost impossible to watch.

This is one of the better Superman cartoons IÃÂÃÂve seen. An evil unnamed person demands that Manhattan be returned to ÃÂÃÂhis peopleÃÂÃÂ (just what these are is not revealed). ÃÂÃÂWhy thatÃÂÃÂs fantastic!ÃÂÃÂ Lois says, and after he is rebuffed by Clark and his boss for a story on this, He storms out, but Lois secretly follows him to his lair! Realizing the girl, he kidnaps her, and forces her to watch the Evil Man destroy the city, fortunately, Clark, rather lamely I must say, says ÃÂÃÂThis is a job for SupermanÃÂÃÂ and promptly gets crushed.

I've seen several of these Fleischer cartoons and feel they've been underrated. The glowing colors, the inevitable verbal putdown from Lois to Clark at the end as he knowingly winks at us, the heroic strain in every fiber of Superman's body, all combine to make these some of greatest of the animator's art of their time.

This is for my money the most entertaining of these old Superman cartoons. Really fascinating because of its Native American villain, who terrorizes Manhattan (not yet Metropolis) in order to get the land back for "my people." The white folks at the Daily Planet call his belated desire to decolonize Manhattan "fantastic" and "ridiculous." By having us side with Superman, flying white guy from another planet, as he defeats this villain, the cartoon reaffirms & naturalizes the "right" of white Americans to possess land appropriated from Native Americans by previous generations of white Americans. Interesting stuff.

What I like about these Fleischer Supermans is that he is animated as a super man. There's a real feeling of weight and strain behind each feat. Objects do not "feel" like styrofoam as in some recent CGed super hero live action films. I would say these are greatest film incarnation of the character, in my humble opinion. All deserve 5 stars.
What is interesting to note about this one specifically is that the antagonist, while a Native American, is not the Hollywood stereotype nor a Tonto-like "noble savage". He's evil but he's a genius....he's an evil genius...on par with a Lex Luthor or Joker. Perhaps a backhanded progress but nevertheless progress for Hollywood (Yes, I know it was made in Miami).
Gee..all he wanted was Manhattan...he has a point...wasn't like he was trying to take over the world. ;)
